Every US carrier has a threshold for customers on unlimited data plans. Usually, the threshold is around 22GB within a single billing period. What this means is once you hit the threshold, your data session will be set to a lower priority than others who are on tired-data plans, or to those who haven’t yet reached the threshold.
T-Mobile’s deprioritization threshold has been 28GB in the fine print of its unlimited data plans for some time now. T-Mobile has quietly updated this threshold to 30GB within a single billing cycle. This section of text can be found in the company’s “About†page under “Network Management for Extremely High Data Usage and Tethering†section.
Based on network statistics for the most recent quarter, customers who use more than 30GB of data during a billing cycle with their data usage prioritized below other customers data usage for the remainder of t he billing cycle in times and at locations where there are competing customer demands for network resources.
This doesn’t mean that as soon as you hit 30GB, you’ll start to see slower speeds. It just means that during peak usage times and congestion, you’ll be more likely to experience slower speeds than others until the congestion is reduced, or you move to an area with less congestion.
